Discussion: Encourage the Heart

Recognition is about acknowledging good results and reinforcing positive performance. Successful leaders shape the environment in which everyone’s contributions are noticed and appreciated. By setting high expectations of themselves and others, leaders set the frame work for success. Successful leaders believe in the abilities of their workforce. This belief brings people to life and enables them to accomplish extraordinary tasks. It brings out the best in people and helps them to work to their potential. High expectations coupled with a spirit of community created in recognition and celebration infuses a sense of purpose and passion and is important to the long term health of the organization.

For this discussion, speak to a friend or family member about his or her own work experiences. In this short interview, please ask the following questions:

How are people recognized?
How does this company or organization build a community spirit, a sense of togetherness?
Are high expectations a part of the corporate or organization’s climate?
